Hass avocado is the most popular commercially grown avocado in the world. It is characterized by its bumpy, thick skin (unlike Fuerte avocado) that turns from green to dark purplish-black when ripe. Developed by Rudolph Hass in 1920s California, this cultivar is popular because of its rich, creamy, and nutty flavor, high oil content, and excellent shelf life.
